z7 rom usage question

I have a couple of roms in .z7 format, I can't get it to work with zSNES... Can someone enlighten this newbie?

Do I need to use GoodSnes utility?

Do you mean .7z? If so, uncompress with WinRAR.

Yes, I meant .7z I can't open it with WinRAR.

My winrar version is 2.9 if that helps.
