Turning off music without disabling sound?
RPGs tend to have annoying music that repeats itself. Is it possible to suppress just the music, leaving in the SFX?

Try disabling certain sound channels. Keys: F5 (channel 0) to F12 (channel 7).

Technically, it can't be done. Creaothceanns way will sort of work, but it'll just sound messed up.

If you don't like the music, don't play the games...
Oh, and while you're at it, ALL snes games have repeating music. Technical limitations, you know.
Some tracks don't loop at all, but they're always less than 5 minutes long then (staff rolls, event musics, and so on).

He's got a point though, RPGs do tend to have annoying soundtracks...just look at some of the better known Snes RPG like the Final Fantasy serie...urg just awful..I'll stick with Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension thank you (/end sarasm)grinvader wrote:If you don't like the music, don't play the games...![]()
Then again, that's true for every system, modern or old. The only way you could truly have "non-repeating" music is if the game would generate pseudo-semi-random music notes. While technically possible, the end result would sound like crap anyway.Oh, and while you're at it, ALL snes games have repeating music. Technical limitations, you know.

There are a few games, not many, that kind of switch on and off musical instruments for a little more variation. Donkey Kong Country's snow level and the final Black Omen battle in Chrono Trigger are two games that come to mind right now.
However, I see the point about switching off music. To repeat what was said, no there isn't a way other than turning off/lowering the volume of the music if the game has that option. If things get really bad, mute your TV/PC. I've done that a million times.
For my own sanity, I especially need to turn down the crappy tunes and voices in Starfox 64. That game gladly does have the option.

Actually the end result isn't too bad if you base things around Markov chaining.Dmog wrote:Then again, that's true for every system, modern or old. pwnd.
Really, though, this is the exception to the rule.
On a different note, RPGs still need to take a page out of Earthbound's book and have more than 1 or 2 battle and boss themes.

Why are you insulting RPG music in such a fashion? To say most RPGs make a harsh grinding or rasping sound constantly is an insult, most RPGs have great music.cibomatto20022 wrote:I think that most RPG have Grate music
