I would like to be able to save images in jpg format.

Post by XDeathReborn »

I know that you can save in BMP and PNG but can you make it where I can save in JPG?

and have an option for UPPERCASE or lowercase extensions?

UPPERCASE=BMP PNG JPG

lowercase=bmp png jpg

This being added would be AWESOME!

Any reason you just can't convert the image yourself?

On a somewhat related note...
Could PNG please be made the default format for snapshots? It's bothersome to switch that option with every update of ZSNES, especially since PNG is clearly the better of the two choices.

Soon you will never have to worry about old config files :)
Worse case scenerio will be that we'll tell you to change a number in notepad, and I doubt we'll even need that.

My guess is that zsnes.cfg will be compatible between releases (if it's not already), and auto-deleting zguicfg.dat with new versions.

First is pretty much correct, gong on the second.

Uh, why would you want both lowercase and uppercase extensions?
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

I prefer lowercase, but ZSNES default is uppercase. >.>

I wouldn't care if uppercase was there or not, I would just very prefer lowercase.

BEH! I just realized it already saves in lowercase! I apoligize on that! I have been using Paint lately also and that saves in UPPERCASE! Please forgive me! But adding jpg to the save as options would still be great.

I love .jpg files.

Sorry for posting a lot but just letting you know the reason I want jpg files. ^.^ Yeah I can convert to jpg myself. But if I use paint, it messes up the quality, if I use Adobe Photoshop CS, I will have to use a lot of space to keep quality. So yeah..

There are many freeware applications that are able to batch convert images to various formats. In my opinion, I think the two lossless formats are enough - and if someone wants more they should use an external program. PNG screenshots are very small in size anyway - using jpg would degrade the quality and the file size wouldn't be that much smaller.

png and bmp doesn't work on sites.

I use jpg files, it would be very nice if zsnes could save in jpg. I am sure you all would just have to add a small bit of coding for this to work?

I don't like converting every single picture just to make it jpg...

WHAT???
PNG was designed for websites.
Most of the pics you'll find for ZSNES on this board on in PNG.

No, not really.

So use IrfanView and batch-convert them.

Batch convert? OMG that's awesome! I didn't know there was a program that could do that! Thanks!

Altough it would still be nice for a jpg option in a future ZSNES update.

libjpeg is huge, why should we suddenly become a graphic conversion program?

Umm to have a nicely new feature on ZSNES? It might give some users like me an even more reason for loving ZSNES.

My screen info is 800 by 600 and I am running OS XP. You can just change the code to have jpg work for me if you want. ^.^ I guess it would be hard to make jpg work for every resolution, but 800 by 600 is mine...

You don't understand. Resolution is irrelevant; to get JPEG output to work, you'd have to add a LOT of code to ZSNES.

Unnecessary code at that. As Nach said, ZSNES is not an image converting program, it's an emulator. Is it so hard to batch convert images with a free program? I think PNG does the job brilliantly - lossless and small file size.

If anything, I'd say remove the bitmap option, but then again, there probably is a reason to have it which I haven't thought of.

Well, it's almost instataneous, while PNG takes a short moment to compress the image.

Ah well, i'll just use that program you all linked me to earlier than to do massive converting.

I just thought it would be great if you were going to add something to ZSNES, to add jpg as an option.

I have a site, if someone has trouble viewing my site, I spend the time to code it so they can view it. If you all do think about adding jpg as an option, it would be nice.

BTW png didn't work on my site's server for some reason. Guess they don't support png files...

Because you might now have libpng installed.

Not a good argument, but heh, installing libpng can be boring.

Compressing CG graphics with a lossy compression algorithm (jpeg) is STUPID. It's going to be ugly, even with the highest quality possible. I almost away find compression artifacts.

JPEG IS EVIL (except when bandwith is rare and the image is a "natural" one, like taken from a camera shot.

Fix your website. It is teh dumb.
