Patching Difficulties

Post by MorteTheSkull »

I've been trying to apply the patch that dubs the voices for Tales of Phantasia, and it says I should patch it after I apply the Dejap patch for the text. Well, when I do that, it will work perfectly when the Dejap patch is on, but if I apply the other patch too, it will like, just have a blank screen. And I can load a save state if I have one, but everything will be all buggy. Any suggestions? Should I be soft or hard patching? Thanks.

Wher edid you download the voice patch from? Are you sure that the patch is not corrupt? Lobstar made that patch so he should be able to help you at some stage. Could you provide your rom info/
I hard-patched the Dejap patch and the voice patch before and they worked perfectly.

Yeah, I've played it with voices too, I originally had a pre-patched ROM with both, but that site went down. I got the voice patch from a ROM site, so can't post the link. I think I also got a voice patch that I had the same problem with, probably the same patch, from this site with Hamtaro all over it, hang on...yeah, topping translations, who I think did the voice patch..

It may be that one of the patches was made for ROM with a header and the other was not. Or your ROM may be interleaved and one patch was not designed for that.

Hmm, well, I have the interleaved ROM, and the patch says it's for the interleaved ROM. And like, the ROM site it's from says it's the right patch for the ROM they have (though it could be wrong). I will check the header thingy, how do I know if my patch is for/not for a header? Or maybe someone could just link to the proper dejap patch and topping patch to use with the interleaved ROM?

The readme included with the patch should tell you if the patch is for a rom with a header and/or interleaved ROM.

I though DeJap had two patches one for interleaved and one for non interleaved. You need to ask LobStar about the voice patch if the information is not included in the readme.

It says it's for the interleaved ROM (the dub one) it doesn't say anything about a header, though

The rom I used is an interleaved super profighter image (what my friend had at the time). I'm sure I did the hacking WITH a header, regardless, if DeJap's applies fine, mine should apply fine (the interleaved version anyway). If you have problems, feel free to contact me on AIM, I will be happy to assist you. Though I may not be able to help until I get home from work, for obvious reasons.

...There's a dub patch?

Where is this patch available?

(I KNOW where to get ROMs... just asking for the patch.)

Ah, well, I got it to work. Or, actually, I got a slightly older version of the patch to work, but it's all cool. It's the one called 998 instead of 999, but it seems to be dubbed fine...unless later on it just turns back into Japanese or something...

I used the 998 patch instead of the 999. The whirlpool told me to do this, but I compared the two anyhow. The Whirlpool was right. They gave Dhaos (I think that is what his name was) a really strange voice in the 999 patch.
