Bug in Seiken Densetsu 3 save (ZSNES or Rom error?)

Post by Frajorin »

OK, so this is just purely wierd, but kinda funny... I had save state A... with Angela as probably a Magus, Kevin as probably a Godhand, and Duran as a Paladin. It was very far, up to the dying Mana Holyland.

I have a different save state... and it has Angela as a Rune Master, Hawk as a Wanderer, and Duran as a Lord...

For some reason that i cant begin to comprehend... is that save state A's characters are now bugged to have the other save state's things.

The only difference i see in the 2nd save state's things on a light look, is that Angela has Lord-Duran's "BAs" and spells, Kevin has Rune Master-Angela's Spells and "BAs", and Duran has Wanderer-Hawk's spells and "BAs" (thats kinda wierd when they do the BAs, but funny looking.

Does anyone know how or why this happened, and if its an error with ZSNES or with the Rom itself?

Wow, that sure is one of the more bizarre bugs I've heard.

To answer your initial question, I'd think this is probably a ZSNES issue; what it sounds like is that the RAM from Savestate B somehow bled over or otherwise corruped Savestate A's. In any case, that sure doesn't have anything to do with the ROM itself.

Now, a few questions.
1) Which version of ZSNES are you using?
2) What's the NSRT info from your ROM?
3) Do you still have the bugged savestate?

and, the last, completely irrelevant one:

4) Could you make a few ZMVs of the characters using thier bugged techniques?

The first question is obviously relevant, and the second one is just a bookkeeping measure to check me just in case I said something totally wrong. The third will allow more effective troubleshooting of the bug.

If you need file hosting on the savestate and/or ZMVs, I can provide some. Just PM me.

Ok, well i still have the save state, though i would carefully have to find which state it was and which it bled from...

I use both the zip file and the unzipped file for saved games ( i have full save state slots of the unzipped, as well as actual saves, so i use the zipped version for more :P )

1) Im currently using 1.36, but it might have happened with... "zsneswv1.337r1.06" (thats what my old zsnes zip file is called)
2) What is NSRT?
3) Yeah, i got the bugged save state...
4) ZMV... dunno what that means, but is it making a little video clip with zsnes?

If youd like to see it, id rather just send it over aim or something

Both games in the same save slot? Sounds like a case of the game storing real-time access data in the save RAM, which is not really stored in save states.

As ThunderClaw suggested, you might have an easier time using movies instead of save states.

Can you try to see if you can duplicate the bug with the latest WIP?
2) What is NSRT?
A ROM verification tool that does not suck. http://nsrt.edgeemu.com/
3) Yeah, i got the bugged save state...
Good, we'll need that.
4) ZMV... dunno what that means, but is it making a little video clip with zsnes?
Poke around in the menu bar for a little bit until you find the movie controls. They're fairly straightforward after that.

I was going to put them on my webspace for the developers to see. Just get a Tripod account or something and upload them; takes all of 5 minutes. I'll snag them, upload them, and you can then forget all about that webspace.

I dont think that it was on the SAME save state, but it just transferred some stats to the other save state...

OOOOK.... then... whats WIP?

And ill try NSRT later, probably tomorrow some time, depending on the amount of homework i have; as well as making that movie thing.

A WIP is a work in progress that includes many fixes and features. The WIP version is far better than 1.36. You can get it here.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

Scan the original, untranslated rom image.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Just use the file manager to upload the files; it'll tell you their locations after you finish the upload. Then just give us those links.

And Agozer's right, get the original image and scan that.

I have the zip... infact i posted it on the tripod site...

In a few notes...

1) Dunno where these stupid files are supposed to appear on this site, but ive uploaded them.
2) If and when you download them, you MIGHT have to rename everything on the site but the zip and the txt files to SD3!!.whatever if they have to be the exact name to be able to play.

Okay, perfect. Test that.

It should appear on the file manager Tripod gives you, I think. In any case, just give me the URL for your site and I'll browse them.
2) If and when you download them, you MIGHT have to rename everything on the site but the zip and the txt files to SD3!!.whatever if they have to be the exact name to be able to play.
Common practice, but thanks for the heads up.

screw it... im tired of trying to remember how to set up links through html, and hunting for a way to make tripod set up download links to the files ive already uploaded. SO... im just gonna PM you the name of the tripod account, and the password (its the lowest leveled password i have). Therefore, you can do what you need to do to finish the last bit up and get the files.

Got the files. I deleted the single sensitive one (the ROM itself) from the site, since Tripod is touchy about that shit.

I just need to know what version of ZSNES you were using. If it was a WIP, I need the date it was released. If it was 1.36, I need to know that.
