smartjoy snes gamepad not working

how do i get my gamepad to work? when i put it in it said everything was installed and when i check in the control panel it all seems fine on the test page. but when i open up zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) and run kirby superstar, it doesnt work. only the keyboard works...help?

sry for the double post but my keyboard also is not a usb i think its called a paralell port keyboard.

Have you actually set the input as joystick and set the buttons in ZSNES? (Config --> Input #1)

And what does your keyboard have to do with the joypad not working?

the only choice i get in the input#1 is either keyboard/joystick or none so i dont know how to diferentiate(sp?) between the keyboard and joystick.
also i didnt know if it being usb or whatever mattered so i put it in there just in case.

Just go to config -> input1 and click keyboard/joystick and push set. Then push set keys and follow it's prompts. It should work, then.
