Help with Saitek P2500 Rumble Pad

Post by Johnnybegood »

Ok guys, I just bought this controller for its amazing reviews and tight control. It installed perfectly, works with NHL 2005 and other PC games, and when tested works great. Unfortunately, ZSNES does not recognize it. When I attempt to change the buttons to my controller, it does not read it at all. I've tried turning off the rumble, changing to digital/analog input, but nothing seems to change. It's a USB controller, running on Win XP Pro.

I also have a Saitek Gamer's Keyboard, that seems to be listed under my available controllers. I'm not sure if this is in conflict, but I can't disable my keyboard to find out. I'm A+ certified so don't be afraid to throw out some technical jargon.

Does your pad have a throttle? If it does, make sure it's centered.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

USE SAITEK GAMEPADS WITH ZSNES

Post by o_doyle »

Hi All,

I've been working on this problem for about 15 minutes now and I've found a solution for XP users. It will probably work with other OS's also, but that’s an untested assumption.

PROBLEM: Saitek Gamepad does not work in ZSNES

SOLUTION: Disable extra Gamepad and Keyboards in the Device Manager

The problem is that XP adds microsoft drivers for almost everything in the device manager even if you have the actual driver for your hardware.

My P2500 worked with both the Saitek Cyborg Force Ruble Pad, and the HID version enabled, the HID keyboard driver disabled, and the gamepad driver XP stuck in there disabled.

My Device Manager looks like this:

[-] Human Interface Devices
Saitek Cyborg Force Ruble Pad
Saitek Cyborg Force Ruble Pad (HID)
Saitek Gamers' Keyboard
Saitek Gamers' Keyboard (HID) *DISABLED*
USB Human Interface Device
USB Human Interface Device
USB Human Interface Device *DISABLED*

You can find out what those USB Human Interface Devices are operating by right clicking on them, then clicking on properties. The bottom one in my list that is disabled is the Microsoft driver for the saitek gamers keyboard. There was a Microsoft driver for the gamepad in there also, but that got zapped when I disabled it for some reason.

Get rid of extra Microsoft drivers if you've got the real driver already installed. Disable copies and play around until it works. If the lights on your keyboard or gamepad go out, you know you've disabled the wrong driver. Make sure you don't disable your mouse or wireless receivers. Only play with things that say Keyboard or Mouse in the properties.

Good Luck everyone.
