Please help! Netplay problems, tried everything!

Post by Kinrai »

Ok, well here's the lowdown. My friend used to live in New York, and while he was there he was on a network behind a router much as he is now, and we had figured out how to set up port forwarding to allow us to play games via UDP over ZSNES.

This all changed 3 weeks ago when he moved.

Now he is in Florida, using a WRT54G v4 router, a slightly newer version of his old one. The firmware page was pretty much the same, so he looked up his information, set a static IP, and did the appropriate port forwarding steps for zsnes.

Both UDP/TCP enabled
Port 7845 forwarded
Correct IP address input 192.168.2.1xx, as his static IP was set to
etc

He then tried to connect to my zsnes server, on my screen, it would display the text "Found client." but it would not push beyond that.

I am not behind a router, and I do not have a software firewall of any sort up. Neither does he. We do not have windows firewall enabled either. We've tried having him DMZ his router(if we did DMZ appropriately, we had him enable it and for host address he put in his static IP address), we've disabled the built in security firewall for his router, done everything we can think of. Can anyone help us out?

Once again, he is using a WRT54G v4 router.

Thank you.

What version of ZSNES are you using, for starters?

And, more importantly, are you both using the same version?
FireKnight:I'm pretty sure a 1KG 24k gold brick costs less than that.

phonymike: well the same amount of raw metals used in a car costs a fraction of the price of a new car idiot. I'm gonna take away your posting privileges and replace them with my balls on your chin.

We are using the same version of ZSNES as we were using prior to the problems starting. This version is 1.42, and we are both on it.

This problem for him does not only apply to ZSNES, but all port forwarding(such as trying to be the host in games such as Warcraft III, etc.) He has everything setup correctly in thr port forwarding regard, but there's apparently something missing from the equation that we cannot figure out. =/

PS- I greatly appreciate the fast replies! Thank you!

Well, then the problem isn't zsnes. Maybe his new ISP is a bitch and doesn't allow him to connect to other ISPs. Or his ISP has those ports blocked.

Tell him to try to connect to someone in his own area.

Having him call his ISP tomorrow to ask them if they have certain ports blocked / allow access to outside ISPs.
