Choppy Audio/Video - please help?
Hey everyone - I'm fairly new to zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) and I've just installed it on my computer and I'm finding the audio semi-choppy. I've upped the Hz level and the sound hasn't really improved. It's both warped and choppy. Also, the video is pretty choppy. I'd previously used ZSNES on two other computers and the audio and video seemed to work fine. However, these were newer computers. My computer is a '98 Dell Computer and I'm wondering if this could be a problem. I'm wondering if my graphics/audio is out of date but I don't know how to check. Any help would be appreciated lots! Thanks.

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

DxDiag also gives RAM information, CPU information, and as Aerdan said earlier, Video and Sound card information.

i love zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) to bad it doesn't actualy run nes games on it =P (joking)Aerdan wrote:Because you typed zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator), not zsnes.
dxdiag has video card information, and probably sound card information [start->run->dxdiag]

But seriously, right click on my computer, and you get processor and ram info. go to the hardware tab and select Device Manager, and then "Sound, Video, and game controllers" for the sound card, and "Display Adapers" for the video card. Seriously, is it that damn hard?

Well I should be getting a laptop this Christmas but I'm still pretty old school as far as computers.
Anyway - computer info:
System Model: V400
Processor: Intel Pentium II, MMX, ~390 Mz
Memory: 64 MB
Page File: 239 MB used, 613 avail.
DirectX v. 9.8c
I have Aureal Audio (would that be my soundcard?) and I couldn't find a graphics card name. But it's probably old as well.
Thanks for all your help thus far!

I remember playing Dragonball Z: Super Butoden I on Snes9X 1.39 with this setup. (OK, the CPU was @ 366MHz, but I still got 60/60fps
)
However, since ZSnes is mostly x86 asm code, you may be able to play a good number of games, maybe not all of them.
PS: Since when is there a Direct X 9.8c ? I must've gotten too lazy with my updates again -_-"

The Direct X 9.8c is most likely a typo.adventure_of_link wrote:I remember playing Dragonball Z: Super Butoden I on Snes9X 1.39 with this setup. (OK, the CPU was @ 366MHz, but I still got 60/60fps)

Trust me, i'm not a n00b 148 post proves it. It's just that people cant decide which is better Dell or Gateway computers.

Disable all audio filters except Gaussian. Set the sample rate to 32 kHz. Try a graphics mode of "640x480 DR F", with Triple Buffering and no filters except Interpolation.

Hm, back in 1999, I used to run ZSNES on a Pentium 166, later replaced by something with 300 MHz. RAM should have been somewhere around 64 to 128 MByte. I don't remember anything else, but games like Secret of Mana, Mega Man VII and Rockman & Forte were running fine. So maybe you should get an older version of ZSNES, turn off some filters, and most of all, disable any programs running in the background. That could help.
