I have had many controllers for my pc and none have been as comfortable or as responsive as my old ps1 controller, the adapter for 2 controllers is soo cheap off ebay and so are ps1 controllers, i have 2 now just for my emulators. :D

Plus dont forget the basic design of a playstation controller is ripped off from nintendo's own design so you get the use of the shoulder buttons making it an awsomely cheaper alternative to the likes of the SUPERSMART JOY.

I have been using zsnes for months now with my controllers and i have not encountered any problems whatsoever and thats with me using a 5yr old comp with only 64bit ram and only 12gig harddrive.
