SuperFX overclocking

Post by deathtok »

Hey guys, just saw this and thought you might be interested. Might be an interesting idea for a feature. I thought about this a long time ago while playing Legend of Zelda on NES, remember that slowdown in some of the dungeons...

You'd have to hack the games then, afaik.

I wouldn't quite say that... You can already 'overclock' in ZSNES with 'Percent to Execute', no? Supposedly makes some slowass games run nicely.

Yeah, but that's an emulator issue, right?

The kind of slowdown mentioned by deathtok is "built-in" into the games, I think.

Hmm, I think ZSNES already outperforms the SNES. I seem to remember that in Zelda 3 when you hit a tree with bees in it, the game would noticibly lag on the SNES. With the ZSNES it runs perfectly smooth.

I have to agree with Metatron here. Its an emulator issue. After all, zsnes is emulating the super fx chip right? IMO you dont hack the rom, you hack the zsnes source. But, in doing so wouldnt this throw off timings in other areas as well?

First of all, what does SuperFX have to do with Zelda? That game doesn't have that chip so I don't see what you think you'd gain from it.

Second:

We'll focus on fixing the sfx emu errors first.
