Sounds like you've got a bad controller, or an internal loose connection. This same exact thing happened to my Saitek controller.

I'd say take it back if there's still time, get the warranty if there's still time, or if you can't do one or the other, and have soldering skills, try to fix it. Or, just plain buy a new controller.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Test it with another OS.
Then test it in another USB port.
Then another computer.

the controller works fine with FC4 Kernel 2.16.14. Tested it just for a few minutes under supertux cause I have no other game installed on this computer.
Also tried to change the usbport on my gamecomputer but with no good result.
I'm going to try it with knoppix (hope there is a game with gamepad support installed) on both computers in the next few days. If it works with both computers I know that it is a problem with my kernel version and not with my computer.

Finally I solved the problem.
I tried it with Knoppix but no difference.
Then I took my powered USB Hub and plugged it in the computer in which the controller didn't work.
I played for about a hour with no disconnect problem. Think the USB supply voltage was too low.
