How can one contribute to ZSNES? Is there a procedure one must go through before being allowed to make contributions? What parts of the project should be worked on first?

I'm no developer, but I know a little bit about the "procedure."
What programming languages do you know? Knowledge of C/C++ and/or x86 ASM (I think) are pretty much required in order to contribute.
What kind of stuff do you want to contribute? There is a continuous project of porting the entire ZSNES codebase from ASM to C. So, you could do that. If there are particular features you want to see in ZSNES, you could contribute those too.
If you haven't already, download the latest CVS source code from Sourceforge. Then you can start messing around with the code and seeing what works. Once you think you have something new, you could post it in here and see what the developers think.
