Keyboard response problems solved

Post by lepot311 »

Hi all, first post here and I'm a new zSNES user. I had an impossible time with the keyboard assignments running from the command line. I even resorted to installing that abonination X11 just to get into the gui config.

The proglem was thus: something wasn't reading my keystrokes correctly. I couldn't control my games and what was worse, I couldn't use the zSNES gui at all. You see.... that little box that pops up the first time you run zSNES gui, it says "Press z to continue" or similar. Now, if your keyboard isn't being read correctly (like mine), you can't press z. Therefore, you can't continue on.

So I spent hours and hours translating the keyboard by making a custom keymap file for SVGAlib. Once I was able to press z, I didn't have any problems. I'm sure others have had this problem and given up.

It seems to me that the easiest way to remedy this problem is to take off the 'first use message'. I would humbly request this for the next release.

I'd suggest at least making it one of those "Press any key to continue"--"Where's the any key?" messages.
