Smartjoy again, strange behaviour

I have a Super Smartjoy with a cheap, third-party (Myiicco) snes controller plugged into it. Windows recognises the controller but it behaves very strangely. After a confusing few minutes in Zsnes I go to the windows control panel joypad test window. The buttons are acting all wrong. Some direction buttons also hit other buttons at the same time, when I hit B every button lights up. The only buttons that work right it seems are X, Y, L and R. I'm running windows XP.

Unfortunately I don't have a snes console available right now to test the controller so I can't work out if the problem is with the Smartjoy, the cheap controller or with windows.

Any thoughts?

It's most likely the third party controller you have. Try using a first party controller, if possible.
