Most likely just a problem with automake.

I'm kinda new to linux (have installed multiple distros, but never got very far into configuring them) and am on ubuntu for the first time (ver. 6.1).

When trying to use the make command, my terminal will not recognize the command, however, I have automake installed (at least as far as I can tell using synaptic) and have installed pretty much every library for the two programs. I've done the same for g++ and gcc.

Any ideas on what I need to install or fix?

make isn't included with automake. It's an entirely seperate program.
