emulation rom questions

Post by nightavenger »

im usually good with this stuff but when i tried getting the rom for
Star Ocean dejap style from these guys, i tried putting my zsnes with it to have it run when i clicked on SO but it wouldnt work, unlike last time.

so it tried something else, and it would'nt come off of the game shortcut.
It now appears as a red A with blue lines. Please help me get that off and put zsnes to work with it. :?:

Please help me understand your problem better, as your style of writing makes it quite difficult to understand just what exactly is the problem.

In short, make sense.

Few points:

1. Specify the ZSNES version you are using.
2. You don't need graphics packs (I'm going on a limb here and presume that this is what you meant) for Star Ocean anymore, as of ZSNES 1.40+ versions anyway).
3. I strongly recommend loading games via ZSNES' load window.

And then for the millionth time (probably), read the documentation that comes with ZSNES, especially the part that deals with automatic IPS patching (or in this case, how to make your Star Ocean ROM into the "DeJapped" one, even though I hate that word like the plague).

Or you could, I don't know, read the second-to-last topic in the FAQs forum. If you look around, you'll probably see this particular forum just hanging above the forum you just posted in. No seriously, read them all. This board also sports a very nifty search feature that provides you with information from threads past.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

It is v. 1.42

before i meant right when i downloaded it I clicked on it ( and a thing came up saying i needed to find what program to run with it) so I was trying to get zsnes to run with it, and it didn't work.

If you're trying to run the patch, well, it won't work. You need the original rom, which we can't tell you where to find it.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

The patch from dejap is not supposed to be loaded via the file loader or command line. You're supposed to obtain the Jap version of SO first and put it in the same folder as the patch. ZSNES should auto load the IPS patch (it cannot be contained in a zip file, though I wonder if that behavior could change).
so it tried something else, and it would'nt come off of the game shortcut.

How about you learn to use ZSNES with the simple games first?

The decompression pack has been obsolete for a while.

That's probably because you are trying to load the patch/decompression pack directly and it simply won't work like that.
