What I want to know is how much Wiis have been shipped tho... if the Wii only shipped 500k and the ps3 1M units, the ps3 still wins...
edit: I would doubt it tho, since the Wii is probably easier to manufacture, i guess.

This is funny. In our paper for the last couple weeks, someone has been trying to unload a 60gb PS3 with controller and 1 game for $900. I'll bet I can check the walmart in this one horse town and find they have a couple.
Reminds me of a few months ago. In a neighboring city we had a Rolling Stones concert. The tickets sold out in minutes. But it was mostly people buying them for the sake of reselling them at a higher price. One idiot quit his job to do this and ended up selling the tickets at $100+ loss each.

Go figure. Sony has a history of introducing formats that never get completely off the ground or completely flop--Beta, MiniDisc, SACD, UMD (movies), Memory Stick all come to mind. The market just finished transitioning completely off of VHS about 9 months ago. Most people don't give a rat's ass yet about high definition formats. I'd be willing to bet that at least 50% of the people with PS3's have them hooked up on composite, or worse, an RF converter because they don't have an HDTV.

I remember seeing on the news one putz that spent 3 days camped out in front of a store to get one for himself, not eBay. I don't remember what the story was about because I was laughing so hard because he had the $500-600 game system hooked up to what looked like a $100 21" Walmart special TV in his living room.

The thing is, the "real" gamers - those who post reviews on the internet, for example - have HDTVs, and do complain that the wii graphics are crappy on them. Ask pagefault...
I still think it's a big risk that nintendo has done. But fortunaly for them, since the hardware is already cheap, they could release a new system in 3-4 years (when the HDTV-to-standard-def ratio will be much bigger, we can hope) instead of 5-6, and gamers won't complain that much (i guess).
Anyway, doing the other way around, using a $600 console on a $100 TV, is so fucking stupid... especially when you can buy 50" HDTVs for $1000!

Should anyone be that stupid for paying for an overpriced product? It should have been obvious at some point. Sony got way too overconfident and now that's really gonna hurt them this gen. The XBOX360 is comparable to the PS3, except it is probably better on many different fronts (free 4xAA is awesome for IQ) and costs less. On the other hand, it is still all about the games...

I still have faith on the Wii though. There's a game in mind.

That's an opinion. It seems like a bad business move to me to purposely not have your console support the highest HD resolution available on the market if you can, especially when your advertising an expensive cutting edge peice of technology. 1080p at present seems to be the ceiling for awhile for HD TV resolutions. Perhaps 1080p will become the most common format.FitzRoy wrote:Sony's got my money this time around. I'm more fed up with Nintendo's mistakes than Sony's. The only thing that's pissing me off is the way 1080p is getting pushed for games. The difference over 720p is not worth the time, resources, or performance hit. I wish they would just shut up about it.
With that said, I don't even have an HDTV, and don't even think 720p is worth the time, resources or performance hit.

But it probably won't become the most common format, at least not until everybody has digital cable or satellite. Broadcast signals don't have the bandwidth--they top out at 720p and 1080i.

Marketing gets in the way of simple concepts such as the game being playable under said resolutions. Anyone can put a checkmark feature on the box, but will the experience be enjoyable in most situations? That's questionable at best.casualsax3 wrote:Anyone else play Gears of War at 720p or 1080i? The framerates are atrocious in some parts - like 10fps or below on some cutscenes.
