I'm always continually amazed at how many people aren't aware that water, like everything else in the world, can be deadly if you consume too much.
I'd explain it, but Wikipedia can probably do a better job than me:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication
Not to seem too calloused, but I kind of wish the story would've said who the winner of the contest was.

I once had to retain some piss, because I was travelling from San Luis Rio Colorado to Hermosillo, a 5 hour trip, and the guy that was driving "needed" to get home "fast".
So he wasn't going to stop. For about 2 hours I had to retain it, it hurted like hell.
Until I got a beer bottle, zipped of my pants and told him I was going to piss in the bottle, and possibly over all his car.
He stopped and I had the best piss in all my life.
I could understand someone dying from that pain.

Man, I don't know what is / would have been more depressing. The fact that she lost, or if she had won the system.A woman who won a video game console by downing massive quantities of water in California radio contest said Monday she was shocked by the death of a fellow contestant.
"You don't think water's going to kill you," Lucy Davidson told CNN. "You're at the radio station having fun."

Almost as bad as those parents that force fed salt to a child as a punishment, resulting in the child's death, undoubtedly unaware that salt is lethal in a certain dose.
Everything has a lethal dose if you consume enough of it, but water and salt can be particularly lethal as they affect the delicate water/salt balance within your body.

This is why I'm glad you'd pass out before smoking enough marijuana to overdose yourself to death.Clements wrote: Everything has a lethal dose if you consume enough of it.

I'm not trying to act cool, just sharing that I'm glad you can't overdose on the stuff. I'm actually trying to quit smoking it, it's really not that great for you.casualsax3 wrote:We get it, you smoke pot - you're cool. you can overdose on anything.
Pot included. you'd have to smoke more than a kilo of it, but you can OD, and it doesn't need to be in a single seating.

Does [Kevin] Smith masturbate with steel wool too?
- Yes, but don’t change the subject.

Some chemicals are very difficult to overdose on in real-life situations.
A really good example I remember is Vitamin C, which has a LD50 (dose required to kill 50% of people) of about 833g, but it is actually not possible to just ingest the appropriate amount of tablets since it causes diarrhea (so further Vit C cannot be absorbed by the gut). You would need to inject it to actually overdose on it. Nevertheless, there is a lethal dose.

Ever realize how much of life is learning from other people's mistakes? It's not that amazing to me... if somebody wasn't told he or she could get very sick or die from too much water, how else would that person know about it?byuu wrote:I'm always continually amazed at how many people aren't aware that water, like everything else in the world, can be deadly if you consume too much.
Life doesn't come with an instruction manual (and NO that Jewish book doesn't count because it's not that well written).

In other news, now there is a real reason Nintendo should have picked a better name for their console.

That radio station should have examined the potential health risk before throwing such a retarded contest.
"next week. you'll win the movie "cliffhanger" if you can hold on the longest to the edge of a 300ft cliff. should all contestants lose the grip, the one screaming the least when he/she hits the ground will win the movie"

"All kinds of private exploitation is theft in the sense that what exists in this world belongs to all of us, and so called 'Intellectual property', or software, is no exception to that"
Yeah this is one case where I have a hard time blaming the woman. Most people don't realize water can kill you. This is similar to putting a saltwater fish in a freshwater tank, but who would think that? The fact that the station ran this contest apparently without researching anything isn't right, there will be lawsuits over this. Normally I am all for a person being responsible for their own actions, but not here.

It is needless. You can't tell me it isn't. It's not like I posted flamebait or made a thread like oskar hamburger does.Joe Camacho wrote:Ah, you see, but the key here is needlessly.Que wrote:sweener2001 wrote:que is stupidZsnes Board Rules wrote:* Don't needlessly harass or flame other members.

Don't bite your own ass. I have been needlessly harassed ever since the copyright debate, and that people (including you) are making fun of my last name really ownly shows they can't tell the difference between internet and real life, and I sincerely hope for your sake you're not acting this stupid IRL. now go back to the hole you dug and, again... LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG!!Que wrote:It is needless. You can't tell me it isn't. Back on topic, 2 liters of water is very unlikely to kill a person if it is intaken at 15 minute intervals as was stated. It must have been far over that amount. When they say "over 2 liters" that's a serious understatement.
And Que, stop being retarded, don't try to pin your crap on someone else. Have the balls to stand up for yourself if you're going to talk shit.
