Alternative To Apple's Program?
So I've formatted this hard drive and got a clean start. This new copy of XP Pro I got comes without a lot of the bullshit which my old copy did (spyware in IE which was around since Win98 SE, windows messenger and other generic bullshit).
Now that everything is completely clean I don't want to infect it with bullshit such as Apple's program for the iPod (whatever the hell it was called) which has gibberish run in the background even when it's program isn't running. There was a discussion once about how to take care of that but I've long since forgotten. So my question is the same as the title asks: Are there any alternative programs? Perhaps a winamp plugin to work with the iPod or something? I recall seeing that once but I can't seem to find it on winamp.com anymore.

The new versions of Winamp have built-in iPod support. Make sure it's enabled in the installer.
Oh, and here's the installer without the emusic crap. http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/cli ... 2_full.exe

Thanks for pointing that out. It seems to support playback but how do I use it to modifiy the files on the iPod... probably a question with an obvious answer but bleh.Firon wrote:The new versions of Winamp have built-in iPod support. Make sure it's enabled in the installer.

It's not exactly the best interface. Using iTunes seems more simple... now if I can just find it's files through regedit to remove so crap won't run in the background.Firon wrote:Probably through the Media Library. I'm not sure how exactly, as I neither have an iPod nor use Winamp. Perhaps the docs explain it, or something.

I don't think so. The jaggies are distracting and I'm not getting rid of the italics.whicker wrote:For one thing, you could disable the lcd subpixel text smoothing. Winamp is the best around. Right click on an artist, album, or song, and hit send to iPod. Go to the iPod, right click and click copy to hard drive. You can also drag and drop if you want to. I don't have it with me so I can't show you, but this is how it looks:

When you iPod in it shows under a new tab underneath Rip & Burn called portables, and then it functions just like the tabs under Local Media. It's supported out of the box, however there is a better plugin called ml_ipod that you can use that does some impressive stuff, such as on the fly transcoding. It can also do album artwork, which I use on my Nano.

You can also copy stuff to the iPod without using the media library - just right click on anything in your playlist and hit "send to iPod". It can also do playlists and ratings.

Yes you're right... that is more convenient than using iTunes. One less program I need to install. Btw what skin is that which you use? Looks like a colour mod of the standard modern skin, I don't suppose it has colour options which I just never noticed? Bah, I use the MMD3 skin.casualsax3 wrote:Winamp is the best around.
