fixed. Sony's the one who made the battery that caused the explosion.

That sucks. I can't imagine how I would feel coming home to find my entire home burned to the ground like that losing everything. Something tells me I'd hit a serious depression for awhile and need some help to get out of it.

I wonder what the 'malfunction' is. Does anybody know? How/Why are these batteries bursting into flames? Or are they just heating up to the point they can catch some material touching them on fire?

I think its quite literally a fiery explosion. I had a video link a while ago that showed what happened to a laptop with an exploding battery. They set their off on purpose though by overriding several of the failsafes that the batteries had.

When the recent
problems began with laptop batteries I read about it at
consumerist.com. I own two Dell laptops -- one for my wife and one
for myself -- so I immediately checked out the model numbers and
batteries against dells website designed for the purpose.

Dell makes decent laptops these days, not as great as they used to be. Thinkpad on the otherhand is still awesome even with Lenovo, and my T60 works great with linux.
