If the code doesn't work, it means one of two things:
1) It was meant for a different region. Most Game Genie codes except version 1.0 US version of the game
2) You did not reset the game. Some codes don't work when added.. a reset is needed at for particular codes.
Please state what game and the code (the code itself and what it is supposed to do).

North American version means US version.

Use NSRT for this.
There only appears to be one version of the game anyways.

NSRT -
http://nsrt.edgeemu.com
This is used to verify your rom dump is good. If the file is not good, you will be running a hacked/incomplete game that doesn't behave normally.

The documentation that comes with ZSNES. If you didn't get ZSNES from the official website, then you are missing the docs.
Anyways, list the code, what it does, and the game it was meant for.

The different poster asked a new general question instead of a game specific one.

Looks like this code doesn't work. Not all user-submitted codes work. Sorry.

I seem to remember a Master Code for Super Metroid that was needed sometimes. I wonder if this is one of them.
Where did you get the code?

The so-called 'master codes' are for the Game Genie hardware so that it can detect the game for code input purposes.
