SUV's are much more practical for city dwellers than trucks are. You can still haul shit, but they're a little smaller, fully enclosed and get (marginally) better gas mileage. I'm looking at getting a Saturn Vue, possibly the hybrid.

My parents used to have an 88 Suburban. The thing was a gas pig. Fortunately it had a 50 gallon gas tank so you could at least make it to the next gas station before you had to fill up again. Gas station attendants used to look at them real funny and ask if they filled up 2 cars.soulmata wrote:AntoineWG wrote: but they're a little smaller, fully enclosed and get (marginally) better gas mileage.

And I was referring more to the midsize or small SUV's like my '97 Chevy Blazer, which I'm looking to sell, than the large ones like a Chevy Tahoe or Suburban or a Ford Expedition.

Wow crea with a funny!
Anyway, congrats on the new truck ReRuss.
I've still got my 89 MR2 - I don't think I will ever get rid of it, especially since it's they're becoming so rare in good shape. Once I get a house I will get something more modern and equally fast, and then start another round of major modifications to the 89... probably a 2ZZ-GE, the motor in the Lotus Elise and Celica GTS.

I just bought an '05 Ford Escape Hybrid today. I'll get pictures up some time tomorrow. The sucky thing is it's going to cost me $129 to get a damn cable to hook up my iPod, plus I still have to figure out how to mount it.

I say nice truck, nice mr2, malibu eh... ford escape hybrid? it takes gas and/or ethonol right? it's not one of them battery powered pieces of shit right? cause when I think hybrid I think half gas half battery, which was a stupid idea, too late in the game. either have full gas or gas/ethonol. by the time you factor in the added cost for a battery hybrid, you could have bought a cheaper new car, paid for the extra gas it consumes, and had way more performance from a regular gas engine (for the same price within ten years.) but I guess they can sleep easier at night knowing their battery hybrid fits their hippy tree hugging lifestyle.

You're confusing hybrid (gas/battery) with flex-fuel (gas/ethanol). I bought it used, so it was only a few grand more than the V6 model, and it gets about 75% better gas mileage with nearly the same performance. I figure it's a good comprimise between my blazer and something with good gas mileage. They say it takes 5 years to recoup the added cost of a hybrid, but with the price of gas on the rise again, I figure it'll be a lot sooner than that. As far as performance goes, it takes a little getting used to--you have to anticipate a need for quick accelleration because the gas engine tends to shut down at stop lights once it's warmed up and takes half a second to start back up.

I'm sorry to hear that.
in my opinion, hybrids are a silly idea. ethonol is the way to go. my buddie's '07 F-150 takes gas or ethonol, so it's ready for the future. meanwhile I got just my gas powered honda. gets like 23mpg. fuck it, we got gas, and I'm gonna guzzle it up!

I just got back from a mostly highway trip and averaged 27 mpg. Not too shabby, but 80 mph highway driving definitely sucks down more gas than city driving.
The hybrid drive is gonna take a little getting used to, but I'm already starting to not notice that the engine starting up on it's own and it's virtually silent when it shuts off that you don't even notice.
The biggest drawback so far is it's going to cost me $130 to hook up my iPod unless I want to continue using the FM transmitter, which I'd rather not do. It's not a problem with the hybrid, but rather the navigation system, which is available on the gas-only models also.

soulmata is jealous of us people who own cars, he can't afford gas so he rides around like a fag on his ipodless moped.
can you save money by hooking up the ipod by yourself? search ebay for car kits, and wire it up. I'm putting a laptop in my car, along with an 8" touchscreen. it's gonna be sweet if I ever get around to actually wiring it up.

Don't you need special cpu cases or something like that to install computers inside cars? Something to do with all the vibration and stuff.phOnYmIkE wrote:soulmata is jealous of us people who own cars, he can't afford gas so he rides around like a fag on his ipodless moped.

I am not concerned. I got a presario 2100 for free (with a shattered screen) so as long as it works, I've gotten my monie's worth!
