Power supply suggestions

Post by snkcube »

Since my Antec power supply seems to be failing (it makes a high pitched squealing noise every time I use the computer, even when it's turned off), it's time to replace it. Can any of you guys recommend me a power supply that won't crap out on me for at least 2 years? And don't recommend anything with Antec, since I'm losing faith in their power supply products. I might go for this Thermaltake power supply, since I don't really need that much power.

Enermax, as far as I know, make good power supplies. I am using one in my current computer and it works fine. I have also built two other computers with Enermax PSUs and they have exhibited no problems.

Enermax is fine. I haven't really used a Thermaltake personally, so you should search around for reviews. IIRC, there are a few PSU specific sites you can google for feedback.

I'm still using the stock fan in my 7 year old pc case. tower case for $100, I think I got my monie's worth. I'd recommend it, but it has absolutely no name.

That's the one I use. My last power supply died an early death as well.. so I wanted something that would last, and I can really recommend them. They have high efficiency and are nearly silent.

Well, thanks for the suggestions. I'll order a power supply whenever I can.

I've been using an old Enermax Noisetaker for about two years now and so far there have been no problems. Though you may want to get one with future requirements in mind just in case you're planning on getting a new video card in a year or two.

I suggest something like the enermax galaxy, or corsair (520watt). I have the corsair, but wanted the enermax. Mine cost about 130$. I dont remember exactly how much. It has a 5 year warranty that comes with it, so if it does go out within a couple years, itll be under warranty.
