New and awesome game(s)

Post by wanabeswordsman »

This is my first post on the ZSNES boards, which is interesting because I've been using ZSNES for like five years now, anyway...

I got The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the day it came out for GameCube. I personally think it's the best Zelda game to come out EVER! Of course, it's closely rivaled by Ocarina of Time. I just wanted to ask other devoted gamers what they thought about it if they've played it, or if they haven't, what do they think they'll think about it if/when they play it. That last sentence might be a little confusing, but I think you get my question.

So, in my opinion, TLoZ:TP FTW!

Also, are there any other games for GC/PS2 or lower that you'd reccommend or want to rave about?

Twilight Princess was good, but I liked Okami better.

Agreed.

I'm playing through Sonic Rush for DS right now, I think it might be the best Sonic game to date.

Zelda didn't wow me and hold my interest so much. I need to go back now and beat FF12 and Grandia 3.

Zelda: TP, while a good game, didn't reward exploration very much, A LOT of unncessary chests.

Yeah, that's one thing I noticed in the back of my mind, the game really didn't reward you for exploring... It was mostly Rupees or ammo of some kind. All that aside though, I loved the combat in TP. I thought it was great that they built on the counter-attacks from Wind Waker and made them "any-time-attacks" in TP.

That's good to know actually, I just got to lake Hylia and was getting sick of exploring. If I know I don't have to explore maybe I can just enjoy the game.

I really enjoyed TP, but yeah, exploration was basically pointless. I did quite a bit anyway, but the game was too easy to make it worth getting all the hearts, bottles and bomb bags.
Still, I thought the storyline was superb, and I liked it a lot more than Ocarina of Time.

As for GC games, Paper Mario 2 is supposed to be pretty good.

Eh, this may be the unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the first Paper Mario much more than the sequel.

I haven't played any Final Fantasy games since VI, but XII has my attention. I wouldn't mind picking up Paper Mario 1 or 2--they both look pretty fun and I enjoyed their predecessor, SMRPG. Too bad I'd have to buy two systems to play Twilight Princess and FFXII...

Sferics, I've never played PM2. I did play PM1, and I thought it was pretty damn good. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and M&L: Partners in Time were also awesome (GBA and DS game, respectively), though Superstar Saga was better than PiT, in my opinion.

It's kind of true about Twilight Princess having pointless exploring. I'm playing it right now and there really isn't much reward from what I played. And yes, there are many treasure chests with rupees in it.

Well, there IS a point to all those rupees... fuel for the invincible Magic Armor.

Eh. The armor sucks, rupees go too fast. And it's useless, there's no point in the game where you actually need it.

It looks awesome though.

WHY OH WHY do you slow to a crawl when you run out of Rupees? I would use it 24/7 if it weren't for that.

Lol, I'm glad many of you agree. I really like how Nintendo made the different suits actually look like armor instead of simply changing the colors and saying they do different things. My personal favorite is the Zora Armor, but I'm strangely fond of blue things (sounds wierd, but it's true.) The Magic Armor is more of a pain in the butt than it's worth, but I LOVE how it looks and I came VERY close to having a use for it when I was near the end of the Cave of Ordeals.

As to the Paper Mario games, I quite thoroughly enjoyed playing both of them. In fact, I'm (lazily) playing the first one through again. I've never played Superstar Saga or Partners in Time, but I would like to.

The Zora armor did look awesome, but I had a few close calls when I was wearing it near fire. :P

I actually died a few times while wearing it because I forgot about the fire weakness being so severe (what is it, 8 times damage?).

"Ah, those fiery things that fall from the cieling (Why doesn't this damn game let you identify enemies by name?!). I'll just walk up to them and cut them."

(A second later)

"Ah, two hits, no problem."

(Another second later)

"...Huh? Why am I dead?"

Lol, I had some BAD experiences with my first run-through of the Cave of Ordeals. I was wearing the Zora Armor. The Moblins (are they Moblins?) that shoot the Fire Arrows shot me twice and I had like 3/4 of a heart left. I didn't notice that until about three rooms later. I was like, "WTF?"

I haven't had so much fun with a video game since I was a kid. The ending was extremely satisfying.

Trauma Center - not new per se, but simply riveting. i haven't concentrated so hard on a game in good while.

Gears of War - fantastic

I was hooked on it until I realised that my Brain/body just was not capable of succeeding at the game. I enjoyed it a lot, though.
