im above the specs needed and have already mentioned patching. the issues of this sort began with v1.01 from what i can see and never disappeared even tho they released 9 patches since.
i would avoid this for at least till the expansion comes because then they would definably need to release a new patch for the original to make it compatible with it... hopefully THEN they will fix the issues.
im going to keep the game since its on a 50% off special at EB Games... and this explains why most likely.

are all the patches for the game several MB in size (IE: in the 100's)? if yes then i can't be bothered experimenting with different versions... oh and i have already seen people who tryed running the game without patching and they get so far then a similar crash with different addresses pops up...

Yes, the patches are around 100-200MBare all the patches for the game several MB in size (IE: in the 100's)?
I got the game to run on a GeForce FX 5200 without it being patched and it still ran okay (of course, all the graphics details were turned down to bare minimums, due to the horrendous support these cards have for shaders). Also, managed to play through the entire game on that setup without a crash...oh and i have already seen people who tryed running the game without patching and they get so far then a similar crash with different addresses pops up...

It's not the first time Westwood had their games act weird.
Back when Red Alert came out, after you entered ra, it took about a minute till it showed the title screen (what the heck was it doing?). And then occasionally, when you clicked new campaign or load mission, you got booted back to the DOS prompt, with no explanation why.
Counterstrike didn't even fix the problem, although IIRC, The Aftermath did.

yea but westwood hardly exists now... most of the guys have been replaced with shity guys.
the original guys did a splendid job with RA 2, and then did a even better job with the expansion... its such a shame EA took over.

Red Alert 2 was a solid game. Unlike Tiberian Sun which had quirks in the engine all over the place.
And even though EA took them over, many of the people working on the main C&C games are from the original team. The guy who plays Kane is the head developer IIRC, of each game in the real series (meaning not Generals).

also one nice thing about tiberian sun was the deformation of terrain, the missions were harder than RA2 but the AI in skirmish was a joke.
RA2 added cities and the garrison ability but other than that and improved AI was not a huge deal. I also appreciated having naval again.

Yes. TS had all these small bugs all over. You'd double click a building to make it primary, then unexplicably, your units came out of the other one. You'd double click certain units to deploy, and they just wouldn't, until you did it again. If your money ran dry, occasionaly certain things you were building went on hold, and others didn't, so you start getting money in, and you don't realize some of your things aren't building anymore. RA2 fixed all these bugs in the updated engine, although they did add some bugs to their boat handling. The Dreadnaught for example if you told it to attack right next to a mountain ledge, you'd suddenly find their rockets shooting at the other end of the map, where you didn't select, and way past their normal firing range.
Oh and lets not forget the original game either, the AI wasn't smart enough most of the time to destroy a wall in their way.
We even go back to Dune II, and that game had tons of bugs. In Dune II, sometimes when attacking their base, they'd rebuild a structure that you destroyed right where it was, while you had a unit now moved into one of squares the building occupied, and now it would be gone.
Even worse, if you drove your MCV up to their base, and starting building inside their base. Like destroy one of their turrets and build your own in it's place, you'd find a minute later that they'd build one on top of yours.
Then if you had damaged Sonic Tanks flown by your Carry Alls into your repair center, and since the area around it blocked off, a Carry All would go fly it back to where it was when it got damaged. Then following that, enemy units and defence structures would no longer attack your Sonic Tank. You could do this once, then have one tank take out their entire base (or several to make it go faster).

what about Emperor: Battle for Dune aka Dune III, it was pretty solid right?
I was worried that they wouldn't even make another tiberium C&C (my fav) but I also wonder if they'll ever make Dune IV, it'd be neat, but I'm sure Red Alert III is assuredly next.
maybe they can make a new engine too, they've been using SAGE for awhile now, even though I'm sure it's not even the same as it was originally with all the augments and tweaks.

It's pretty pathetic, but when I originally bought some games, my PC couldn't handle them, so I just left them in my CD box, and haven't looked at them since getting new PCs. I do plan to look at it one of these days though.

that's ok, my PC still sucks, but you should really play Dune III if you're a fan man.
As for Red Alert III, I could care less but in the past it always seemed that there were more Red Alert fans than C&C fans or Dune fans, maybe C&CIII has changed that.
as for the storyline, RA2's storyline was already f-ed to all hell. I'd just as soon let them come up with something new. C&C was already their sci-fi storyline, I think Red Alert should have stayed a bit more serious like the first game. I mean they did it because they wanted to do a sort of alternate WWII anyways.
In anycase there are no other RA games besides 1, the two expansions, and 2 and it's expansion, c'mon people they make RA in westwood, not japan.
anyways, for now they have C&CIII and it's expansion, and that'll last for awhile, but I think they should try to make Dune IV, maybe Dune III didn't do that well with sales, what a shame.
