I can't honestly believe MS decided to rip off a platform that failed so bad that most people never knew it existed. I'm assuming parallel evolution.
Because let's face it, sticking a standard PC in a box with a custom OS is the easy way to enter the market. Okay, so Apple used a standard Mac instead of an IBM clone, but...
nobody mentioned the whole FFXIII 360 thing yet?

12 had the deck stacked against it from the start.
First, series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi left the company to start Mistwalker during it's development. No big deal, right?
Well.... a bunch of Squeenix's staff jumped ship with him. Including FF12 staff. It's rumored that about half the team packed up and left.
Shortly afterwards, the lead producer(Yasumi Matsuno, creator of Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Ogre Battle, and Tactics Ogre) had a nervous breakdown.
Apparently, he wasn't happy with how the game was turning out, the higher-ups were breathing down his neck about everything, the internet was throwing a big hissyfit because it wasn't a traditional "stand in a line and wait for your time bar" game... So he just quit coming into work, and quit answering the phone.
End result: the producer and half the staff were replaced midway through.
If the game has some issues... well, is it any surprise?
The gameplay's sound(well, except for the license board). It's just got a flaky game surrounding it.

If by gameplay you mean the battlesystem, and by game you mean the story, game world, dungeons and grinding, then agreed. The gameplay's sound(well, except for the license board). It's just got a flaky game surrounding it.
But candy surrounded with shit is still candy surrounded with shit.
Then again, clever as the battlesystem was, they should have realized being able to leave characters on autopilot and rarely having to touch any buttons besides walk, is not very engaging to the player. In fact, it's on the very same level as "just pressing X", a comment often thrown at traditional RPG battles.

at least they had the whole gang up on your enemies thing worked out.
I remember bugs with secret of mana and IIRC Pokemon mystery dungeon on ds (the demo version) and both had similar systems. Heh, that was fun where you could keep attacking your foes and they couldn't do a damn thing.
other than that and the constant (and sometimes rather endless) grinding (as well as always being short of gil unless you sold your treasures) ff12 was okay.

People say that the 360 is better because it has more games. Well, that maybe so, but the PS3 rather than having lots and lots of games, instead has a smaller selection that is almost completely comprised of good games (many of the 360's games are fps).
MGS4 is one of the reasons I will eventually get a PS3. Final Fantasy XIII may be on the 360 aswell now, but the PS3 is more powerful than the 360, and I hear that Final Fantasy XIII will take advantage of all the power in the PS3. If I get final fantasy xiii for the 360, I suspect it would be like what the PS2 port of resident evil 4 is compared to the Wii/GC version of resident evil 4.
On the plus side, a lot of the better games that come out on the 360 also get released on the PS3. The PS3 is also region free, so without installing a modchip I can play Japanese games (and import from the US games that do not get released in the UK).
Additionally, the PS3 is backwards compatible with all of my PS1 games. I hear that they stripped PS2 backwards compatibility in later revisions of the PS3, but that doesn't matter because I have a PS2 that works just like new (I look after my shit tremendously). My PS2 is also modded, so I can play any game I like on that. In the same sense, I don't need PS1 backwards compatibility on the PS3 either (my psx is also modded). Even though I own both a PS1 and PS2, backwards compatibility would still be nice. I will probably try and get one of the older PS3's if I want PS2 backwards compatibility (honestly, if I eventually save up enough money for a HDTV, having PS2 graphics being anti-aliased would be really awesome).
I also hate Microsoft, with a passion.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that though ffxiii is not ps3-exclusive anymore, that still won't convince me to get a 360 instead of a ps3.

Yes, the FF series has, IMHO, turned for the worst ever since FFX-2 was released. Here's why: 1 - Nobuo Uematsu didn't do the soundtrack, and therefore it sounded like crap. And 2 - because of the storyline, I mean, c'mon gimme a frikin' break! Anything before FFX are the real Final Fantasies. Don't even get me started on FFXI. That was an anomaly or better yet, an abomination, to the series as a whole.
俺はテメエの倒す男だ! 宜しく! お前はもう死んでいる...
I personally like the soundtracks of the newer Final Fantasies(?) Sure, Uematsu's absence can definitely be heard and many of the tracks aren't nearly as good as you'd expect them to be.
Still, there are lots of great tracks in FFX-2 (especially FFX-2) and FFXII.
As for the FFXII and its system and story, I like those too; I think was a welcome move to redesign the battle system the way they did, while still keeping parts of the old ATB system in place. As for the story, I certainly don't mind warring nations/factions.
The only real problem I have with the game is the License Board (it's fucking stupid if you ask me), and the ridiculous MP penalty you get for using Quickenings and Summons.

Look at it the other way. You actually have crap MP until you get quickenings to boost it two/three/fourfold.

You can not use gambits on your player character. Then it's a lot like the Tales of and Star Ocean franchises, only with a lot more control over the AI.Then again, clever as the battlesystem was, they should have realized being able to leave characters on autopilot and rarely having to touch any buttons besides walk, is not very engaging to the player. Personally, I'd like to see another FF12, but with a stable and competent dev team. But like hell that's gonna happen.
Ah well... we'll always have Vagrant Story and the Parasite Eves.
Oh, and Franky, the "360 only has FPS lololo!11111" argument is long since dead.
I've got Mass Effect, Armored Core, Dead Rising, Kameo, Senko no Ronde(ZOMG WARTECH!1111), Lost Planet, Bullet Witch, Ninja Gaiden 2, Earth Defense Force... all 100% Grade-A Good Times.
(No, I don't care if you have a magazine that says Bullet Witch and EDF sucked. They're wrong.)
Even Project: Sylpheed! I honestly thought the space combat sim had died with the XWing series.
What I DON'T have, on the other hand, is an FPS. There is, in fact, more to the system than Halo. Just because you're a Linux Zealot doesn't mean you get to throw crap and not get called on it.
And there's plenty of bad games and FPSes on the PS3(there's even Timeshift, which is a PS3-exclusive bad FPS). Just like every other set of systems, no one's got a monopoly on bad games.
Well, I'd rather have a PS3.
I've read all kinds of things about both consoles, and despite the 360's popularity, the PS3 just seems like a much better console.
I have good reasons for hating Microsoft, and none of these include zealous for a particular thing.

1. The X-Box nor the Xbox360 were filled mostly with FPS games.
2. The PS3 is not more powerful than the X360. They're around the same. The PS3 has a CPU that if used right can really excel. The X360's CPU falls under that too. The PS3's CPU, on the other hand, can assist in doing graphics stuff more than the X360's can(To way over simplify it). The PS3's GPU is certainly less powerful than the X360s.
3. Your entire diatribe on how FF13 will look on the X360 is 100%FALSE.
4. The PS3 has not had PS2 BC stripped from all its' models. What you're thinking of is the removal of the EE from all PS2 compatible PS3s, and using software to emulate it. The GS is still there. You're also thinking of the 40 gig model which does not have PS2 BC.
Congratulations, you fail at the Internet.

indeed, let us not get into a lame console flame war, and instead focus on things we can agree on.
franky and neo bahamut are stupid
FFXIII for the 360 isn't to convince anyone to buy a 360. it's to keep people like me from buying a ps3
all systems have things going for them this gen, more so than last.

Also, the last FF I finished was 7, I gave up on 8 and 9, I never had a PS2 so I didn't play X, X-2 or XII..
So it's not liket XIII will make me buy a ps3 or an xbox360, so there.
