Judging by those screenshots, I think CT will look alright on the DS.

Way to dodge (or miss?) the point.

Never mind.

Yes, maybe not 100% pretty, but still readable.
You mean "completely unacceptable for any sort of commercial release". It's not even the text so much as the graphics. Imagine you'd have to look at that fullscreen on a DS where, due to the small size and resolution, you're much more focused on individual pixels than usual. Zoom in and look at the tiny portraits. Look at poor Marle's face! Why do this, when you can just make the viewing window smaller by a tiny bit and prevent mangling the whole screen?

Square would never do that in a million years, and if they did, they'd be lynched.

Some people describe it as the best RPG of all times.

Not so much a Squeenix whore as someone that really liked CT.

Hell, it took a conscious act of will to not buy Lunar Legends and Lunar: Dragon Song. Even AFTER I played a friend's copy of Legends and saw how fucked it was.

Some people exaggerate.

It IS an audio-visual masterpiece(Well, visual masterpiece for an SNES game...), and has a hell of a lot of replay value, and it's reasonably well-written.
But it's not the best ever. I'd probably place it in the top 5 JRPGs, though.

General and battle menus actually look like they'll be fun to use with the touch screen. Maybe I'll try this out on a kiosk or something.

How'd they fucked up LL? I was under the impression it was a faithful port of the SCD version minus awesome soundtrack.

HAHAHAHAHAHA... no.

It's a remake of the Silver Star Story remake.
I could write a BOOK about what's wrong with Silver Star Story, but only because I'm an obsessive fanboy. :)

Unfortunately, it's a BAD remake. Aside from the poor music(NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!), lack of animated cutscenes(Not even the barely-animated Silver Star-style ones. Just static pictures.), and FOR FUCK'S SAKE, IT'S SILVER STAR STORY AGAIN!, the biggest problem is they totally pitched the old battle engine, which had already seen a major dumbing down in SSS and even further in EB Remix.
It's straight Final Fantasy now. One global item bag, location on the battlefield is meaningless except for attack/defense, limit bar, etc.

Hell, they use a Lunar 2 tune on the title screen. That's how off-track they were.
...
That's also the root of what's wrong with SSS, IMO. They were trying to make it more like Eternal Blue and less like Silver Star.

Indeed.

I had to actually play it to convince myself that it wasn't worth the money.

Dragon Song, I had no such problems with, though.

Sad how far Game Arts has fallen.

To be fair I've never heard of CT until I started using SNES emulators (which was back in 2003) so..

Not to mention there's plenty of other good gems I haven't heard of (besides the non-US releases anyway.)

Why would they remake it to shitty 3d graphics like FFIV? And no, you wouldn't need to stretch anything, you'd crop it vertically and reposition some things. There's a giant empty black bar on most screens at the bottom, why wouldn't you want that cropped out?

well
i think its better than releasing ANOTHER port of the same game.
a 3d remake makes people interested in playing it again.

i tried ffiv ds and i have to say it looks like a completely new game.
and the graphics when looked through the ds screen are good
