Even though I played this game to death on zsnes, I'm still gonna get it. I was never able to get it on the snes, cause living in Canada eh, it was going for a fucking $100 when it was out.

He's... more complex in the original.

Originally, he's bent out of shape because his best friend got killed doing Althena's dirty work, and doesn't understand why a goddess NEEDS a human to do her business for her(a question that remained unanswered until Eternal Blue).
Ironically, his vengeance winds up killing Dyne. Ooops.

In SSS, he's just an asshole.
Althena's all "People need to quit depending on me for everything. It's just holding them back." and Ghaleon's all "Nuh-uh, people are dumb and you gotta boss 'em around or they fuck it all up." and she's all "Oh, no you didn't. I'm gonna retire RIGHT THE FUCK NOW and prove you wrong!" and he's all "Be that way, bitch! I'll steal your job!"

That clear enough?
The change also makes his redemption in Eternal Blue fairly non-credible.

Also, the changes to Althena pissed me off.
Alex is a fucking consolation prize what the fuck bullshit!

Yeah. As is his enslavement of the dragons.
Originally he was killing them to prevent Alex from becoming a dragonmaster.
In the remake, he's turning them into Duracells for his ultimate magic tank(that was steam-powered?).

That's Ghaleon's argument, which is barely brushed upon. mostly it's "Hey, look at that crazy Ghaleon! He's killin' dragons, kidnappin' townsfolk, and brainwashin' my adopter sister/girlfriend! Let's go shank that bizatch!"
But he's off his rocker anyways, and there's even more-slightly brushed-upon threads indicating he was posessed by a demon.
I'm fairly convinced the game wasn't really complete, and several elements had been cut somewhere in the dev cycle, either when it was planned for a ROM cart, or when they started converting to CD.

But Luna IS Althena, and she's good people. Well, except when Ghaleon brainwashes Luna so he can use Althena's power to smite peoples. THEN she's bad people. But she's still good underneath that, and the power of love and music can undo the brainwashing.
Make sense?

His question was actually addressed in Lunar 2. Althena had lost a good bit of power due to losing followers in the war with Zophar.

It was actually to the point that the dragonmaster(and other, less cool heroes like Ghaleon, Lemia, and Mel) were needed to protect her. She wasn't doing her own dirty business anymore because she wasn't capable of doing her own dirty business anymore.
