Nice idea to improve the Load Game Menu :)

Post by gab »

Some roms' files names are too large to show it properly in the actual
Load Game Screen...

this "MOD or Updated" menu, should be a good idea to include it in a
future release, i think :)

? comments ?

Looks like a good idea, but it might be difficult to implement this into the current ASM code. Right now, the GUI ASM code is being ported to C. After that's done, this could be added more easily. So wait and hold on to this idea. :)

Frankly, I'm perfectly happy with the way it is now...

If they do decide to do a complete GUI overhaul when they port it's code to C, I hope there'll be an option to keep the old GUI...

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Horizontal scroll is the spawn of the devil.

This idea would work (excuse crude MSPaint-jobby), inserting a variable width font. It would probably require a massive overhaul in GUI code.

That's an amazing idea, would be something to do if we ported the GUI to C and stuff.

Yeah, and that VWF looks REALLY nice compared to the current font, though it looks like a higher-res font, so I'm wondering whether we could use that font in lower resolutions (then again, does anybody still use resolutions below 512x448?).

But please please pretty please keep an option for a "classic" GUI with all the old fonts and stuff, if it does happen. ;_;

You have to remember, that right now, the text is 5x5 pixels. The size of the pixels can't be changed (at least easily) in the current GUI, and even if they could, it would probably break the DOS port and low-res modes. We tried to do a 3x5 font, but it looked pretty bad.

IceFox is right :)
but, meanwhile, we can give opinions about a new one:

* Use something like Jump to file feature of winamp or/and the Gmail's Compose Mail, to first search and then load a game:

How about the idea to enter (as keyword), at least 2 or 3 characters, to do this GREAT search / filter option (a single char has no sense)?

I think I like that idea. I have no idea how I survived before I started using the jump to box in winamp. The one for winamp 5 is even better than the old one.

To be honest though, I think they are a long way from the point where suggestions need to be taken to improve it :(

If you have the file list selected (and not the directory list), you can jump to a ROM by typing the first few letters.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, we support that already and have supported that feature for years.

I think his idea is different because it will jump to and match if the search term occurs anywhere in the string rather than just at the beginning, which Zsnes doesn't support that I've noticed.

Ah.
Well, if we port the menu code to C, it would be a cinch to change the !strncmp() to a strstr().

I love this idea. It can be hard to make out which rom you are loading, especially if you are loading Goodsnes/ Nsrt roms.

I meant renamed roms, unless it doesn't rename them... I have only ever used it to add a header or something. I just assumed.

NSRT can rename your roms in 8.3 format, which makes them all fit in the window.

You drag & drop files or what? I only use the Load dialog.
