Maybe we could have it say "Press a key of your choice"—just to be different. Then the new users can also easily rely on the 'a' key to get them through this challenging ordeal.

"Press a key, any key. Got your key? Good, make sure you remember it. Watch closely was I place your key in with all the other keys and shuffle them up. I will now lay them out on the table one by one. 1...2...3...4... is this the key you picked?"
"No, motherfucker, and you broke my keyboard. I'ma gonna kick yo ass."

I had also considered this for the last line: "section. ...ZSNES Rocks!" It could also say "have fun," or something like that. Of course, it isn't necessary to have anything at the end there.

Personally, I prefer my version over grinvader's. His doesn't have the right flow of wording, in my opinion, and it kind of says the same thing twice. Mine says everything his does, and more! (It does so in less space, too.)
So... is anyone in favor of mine? I wouldn't mind at all if it had the extra note about "having fun" or "enjoy" removed. Comments, please?

I like your version better. grinvader's does seem a little redundant.

Yeah. Unfortunately, we have to decide on only one of those ways.

Maybe change the word "troubleshooting" to something like "reliable"; we don't want to give people the impression that there is going to be "trouble" the first time they use ZSNES.

I think that should do it. What do you think—can we agree on this as the final?

Actually, I'm not sure I like having "Thanks!" at the end. The formal nature of the notice seems like it may be a little too offset by that; perhaps we should just leave off the last line. It isn't a big deal, though.

Joe Camacho wrote:I personally think that it should remain "press Z to continue" because that's the way that we can really know if they read the message.
But then there's all that QWERT vs. other keyboard key layouts thing...
But then again, when people come here claiming that 'Z' doesn't work, at least we know that they've read the reminder at least once.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on? sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Well, couldn't it be changed for a key that all keyboards share? but it's not as obvious as enter or space?

Nach wrote:You still use accronyms and don't give a sense of urgency.
It has the same urgency that his has. The user also doesn't need to understand "FAQ" because the notice tells them that the "FAQ Section" covers common problems, thereby being more informative than grinvader's version.
