No, space is good.
Maybe we could have it say "Press a key of your choice"—just to be different. Then the new users can also easily rely on the 'a' key to get them through this challenging ordeal. :)

What do you guys think of this?

Code: Select all

One Time User Reminder :

Please be sure to read
the documentation
included with ZSNES.
Common problems are
addressed in the FAQ
section. Enjoy!

Press a key to continue.
I had also considered this for the last line: "section. ...ZSNES Rocks!" ;) It could also say "have fun," or something like that. Of course, it isn't necessary to have anything at the end there.

Heh, here's another good variation. [*EDITED]

Code: Select all

One Time User Reminder :

Please be sure to read
the documentation
included with ZSNES to
ensure fun. Common
problems are addressed
in the FAQ section.

Press a key to continue.
:)

Personally, I prefer my version over grinvader's. His doesn't have the right flow of wording, in my opinion, and it kind of says the same thing twice. Mine says everything his does, and more! :) (It does so in less space, too.)

So... is anyone in favor of mine? I wouldn't mind at all if it had the extra note about "having fun" or "enjoy" removed. Comments, please?

I like your version better. :) grinvader's does seem a little redundant.

A slight modification:

Code: Select all

One Time User Reminder :

Please be sure to read
the documentation
included with ZSNES
for important info and
answered FAQs. Thanks!

Press a key to continue.
Of course, there are a million ways in which it could be said. ;)

Thanks, IceFox. 8) I need that kind of support.

Yours looks pretty good, too. How does this new modification look?

Code: Select all

important info and
troubleshooting FAQs.
Thanks!

Press a key to continue.
"Info" could also be extended to "Information" (we do already have the space, after all! ;)):

Code: Select all

One Time User Reminder :

Please be sure to read
the documentation
included with ZSNES for
important information
and troubleshooting FAQs.
Thanks!

Press a key to continue.

Yeah. Unfortunately, we have to decide on only one of those ways. :P

Maybe change the word "troubleshooting" to something like "reliable"; we don't want to give people the impression that there is going to be "trouble" the first time they use ZSNES. ;)

Code: Select all

One Time User Reminder :

Please be sure to read
the documentation
included with ZSNES for
important information
and reliable FAQs.
Thanks!

Press a key to continue.
Now it looks great! :D

I think that should do it. :) What do you think—can we agree on this as the final?

Actually, I'm not sure I like having "Thanks!" at the end. The formal nature of the notice seems like it may be a little too offset by that; perhaps we should just leave off the last line. It isn't a big deal, though.

In that case, why not replace it with: "Thank you."?

Nah. I think I like "Thanks!" more. We can stick with it; I just wasn't sure if it was the best thing to have there.

Then again, I'm really tired, and I don't know which one I really like more. I'll think about it later. You guys can think it over, too. ;)

I personally think that it should remain "press Z to continue" because that's the way that we can really know if they read the message.

But then there's all that QWERT vs. other keyboard key layouts thing...

But then again, when people come here claiming that 'Z' doesn't work, at least we know that they've read the reminder at least once.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Well, couldn't it be changed for a key that all keyboards share? but it's not as obvious as enter or space?

Would "Home" or "F4" work?

Or: Press 'End' to continue.

The End key should be more like Enter or Spacebar, but thats my opinion.

Since you asked my opinion, I like what grinvader did.

It's to the point, doesn't use any possibly unknown accronyms, suggests urgency, doesn't seem too friendly, and uses an easy to find key.

I still think grinvader's is too redundant.

How does this look?

Code: Select all

the documentation
included with ZSNES for
important information.
The FAQ section addresses
common problems.

Push Spacebar to proceed.

You still use accronyms and don't give a sense of urgency.

:x It has the same urgency that his has. The user also doesn't need to understand "FAQ" because the notice tells them that the "FAQ Section" covers common problems, thereby being more informative than grinvader's version.
