Guys, zipped roms can't be run in 1.41... it will shutdown ZSNES completely... normal roms run perfectly..

EDIT: I reinstalled 1.40 and it works normally again.

What lies?

Please be more specific, I can run zipped ROMs fine. Also make sure you deleted your config files from previous versions.

I did as you said and now it works fine. Surprisingly, I never had to delete my config over the numerous WIPs last time.. so don't say I am lying or something Nach.

I'm not saying you are, but ZSNES v1.41 loads zipped ROMs and anything else is a lie.

I will confirm the bug. However, it only occurs if you disable auto-patch.

It works fine in RC2.

No. If you disable auto patch and launch a zip file that does not contain an IPS patch, the IPS loader will crash. Or at least the extremely old ZSNES v1.41 IPS loader crashed.

And how does that not equate to ZSNES crashing when loading zipped ROMs? And if the IPS loader in ZSNES 1.41 is at fault because it is "extremely old", why did RC2 work fine?

ZSNES doesn't crash when loading a zipped ROM. You need a certain set of occurences, and even then it crashes after the ROM is loaded.

Why RC2 is fine is because I compiled it, and my zlib doesn't crash when you try closing a non existent zip file. ipher's apparently does. Regardless, the IPS loader will no longer try to close a non existent zip file.

Gradius 3 is another game that's had some sounds changed for the worse in 1.41. Listen at the Konami logo and the title screen (press start); it's just not right anymore. :(

I think the list of affected games will grow over time, as people discover them. Could these problems be resulting from timing fixes that enabled compiling with MinGW? Or, perhaps more likely, "Improved accuracy of base rates used for ADSR, GAIN, noise, and echo emulation"? Whatever the cause, it seems that the change was perhaps not for the better.

With the auto-patch problem and the new sound problems, I'm sorry to say, but this "bugfix release" seems to have more bugs than fixes added. :?

Nicely sized executable there. (Yes, I know it's just not UPXed, I'm just pokin' fun.)

EDIT: I just tested the zipped ROMs thing. They load fine with autopatching enabled or disabled here. With the test build mind.

Yes, I confirm the zipped files loading with or without the auto-patching enabled for the DOS port.

The sound issues remain, though. But Gradius 3 isn't one of the games that has a problem; apparently I was remembering incorrectly.

All is well, at least with the sound issue. 8)

So, what was the problem?

Post by zombiegod »

Hi,

Yoshi's Island no longer works. At least in zipped format (not unzipped it yet).

Black screen...

Do you get this problem with any other games? If it happens to every game, make sure auto-patch is enabled in the options window.

(a) BS Excitebike Bun Bun Mario Battle Stadium 1
(b) BS Excitebike Bun Bun Mario Battle Stadium 3 (1-11)
(c) BS Excitebike Bun Bun Mario Battle Stadium 3 (2-8)

Game freezes
ZSNES Win v1.41
Win ME

Each of the 3 games exhibit the same bug. At the end of the game, after the results screen, you're just supposed to press 'Start' and then the credits will roll. The game just freezes though. This doesn't occur in Battle Stadium 2 or 4.
