[Bug] - Auto Patch doesn't work in DOS Version

Post by andresoares »

Hi,

I was trying to use the Auto Patch feature but it doesn't work in DOS version. I followed the steps in the Zsnes Doc files, then I run the ZSnes and the game remains in Japanese.

After I also tried use the ZSnes for Windows just to check where was the problem but I noticed that in windows version it works perfect. But my machine is too slow when running the Win version of ZSnes, so I can't play and enjoy the roms.

My computer is a Intel Pentium 200 MMX, 44 MB Ram, 1 MB Video Card running Windows 98.

I am sorry, but my english is not that good.

Is auto-patched enabled? Look in the options.

Yes it is enabled...

I found it in the options menu, first I disabled then after I enabled it, reloaded the program, loaded the Rom and no change.

Thanks

What is your ROM named? What is the patch named? Where are they?

Never mind.

Probably the "put the IPS in RomDir instead of SaveDir" problem.

I have the following ROMs and Patches in a folder named "Nova" inside the ZSnes Folder named "SnesEmul" that is in the root.

C:\SnesEmul -> Path to Zsnes.exe
C:\SnesEmul\Nova\ -> Path to the Roms and their Patchs

CTrigg.smc - Rom - 4097 KB
CTrigg.ips - Patch - 211 KB

Dragon_Quest_I_&_II_(J).smc - Rom - 1537 KB
Dragon_Quest_I_&_II_(J).IPS - Patch - 208 KB

Dragon Quest5.smc - Rom - 4097 KB
Dragon Quest5.ips - Patch - 305 KB

Dragon Quest6.smc - Rom - 4097 KB
Dragon Quest6.ips - Patch - 305 KB

ys4e.smc - Rom - 1536 KB
ys4e.ips - Patch - 87 KB

The funny thing is that works perfectly in ZSnes for windows... but then I can play 'cause this version runs very slow in my machine.

Thanks,

Put the IPS in the same directory/folder where ZSNES stores the savestates and SRAM.

Do what agozer said, in addition to that, do not use filenames that break 8.3.

For extremely easy patching, you can just take a ROM and it's IPS and place it in a ZIP file. Then as long as it finds *.ips in the same zip as the ROM it'll patch.

We really should use the same path for all ports...

The DOS port searches the SaveDir, while SDL and Win ports search the RomDir.

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure it's DOS and Win that use the SaveDir and SDL uses RomDir.

Let me check...

- yes indeed, that is true.

Ambiguity alert! Define "that" in this case.

DOS and Windows ports use SaveDir for states and sram, as well as GameDir for the startup directory.

Thank you all,

I am at my job right now and my personal computer is at home. But I'll try it tonight (here in Brazil is 3:55pm)

And tomorrow I'll post my results.

The best help I ever received from a foreign forum, congratulations for the members.

PS: Here at my office it worked perfectly.

Perfect, I put the Roms and the Patches in the same directory/folder and now it works perfectly.

Once more: Thanks a Lot, and keep the god job with the ZSnes.
