TFT/LCD Monitors & zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) 60FPS/ 120HZ
Moderator: ZSNES Mods
In that case if the native Res of a TFT is 1024, playing old 2D PC games & 2D Emus at 320x240 - 640x480 will look really bad when they're scaled to 1024.
How about older consoles like DC, PSX & Saturn. What will they look like when they're scaled on the TFT?
I'll have to consider all this before i buy one.

For the record, I run ePSXe at 1280x1024 and it looks fabulous.ST Dragon wrote:In that case if the native Res of a TFT is 1024, playing old 2D PC games & 2D Emus at 320x240 - 640x480 will look really bad when they're scaled to 1024.

You get artifacts when it's scaled. Gives the image a sort of blocky-fuzzy look. You can see what I mean now with ZSNES at 640*480 DS.ST Dragon wrote:In that case if the native Res of a TFT is 1024, playing old 2D PC games & 2D Emus at 320x240 - 640x480 will look really bad when they're scaled to 1024.

How visible it is depends on the specific image and user.

This varies very much with the monitor and video card you are using. Firstly, you can use your monitor OR your video card to scale the resolution. There is an option in the nvidia drivers to use the LCD monitor hardware or video card hardware to scale the resolution. I notice quite a bit difference between the two.Gil_Hamilton wrote:You get artifacts when it's scaled. Gives the image a sort of blocky-fuzzy look. Different monitors will also do a much better or worse job with scaling. Some LCD monitors are very good and can produce an acceptable picture at most resolutions and a nearly perfect one say one resolution down from native.

I really think Samsung has some of the best computer LCD monitors out there.

It would actually depend on your needs. You'd want a good, durable brand, and make sure the refresh rate is < 16ms if you plan to use it for gaming.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I've read at other forums that, if I want to use the TFT for emulation it would probably be a good idea to stay away from 1280x1024 native REs LCDs, since they have an unusual aspect ratio (5:4 instead of 4:3).
In that case these EIZO TFTs I posted are not suitable for emulation since their native resolution is 1280x1024 thus being 5:4 instead of 4:3.
Is that true?
EIZO 17'' L550

Specs:

I found this at a shop for 399 Euros / 534$ is this price ok?
Or this:
EIZO 17'' L551

Specs:
http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/l557/spec.asp
What resolutions over 1280x1024 have 4:3 aspect ratio in TFT monitos?

yes, it's true they have a 5:4 ratio, but you can use them just fine for emulation. 4:3 content displays a small quarter inch(on a 17" monitor) black bar at top and bottom full screen in correct aspect ratio. Hardly noticable. If you choose to stretch the extra quarter inch, it's hardly noticable.
You can also use a 4:3 non naitive resolution and depending on the monitor you have, can still be perfectly acceptable. Using the graphics card hardware scaling(rather than the LCD hardware) option with my Samsung monitor yeilds 1024x768 non naitive resolution that is virtually distorition free.
Honestly, I wouldn't let the ratio stop you from buying an LCD monitor. It will probably never be an issue unless you're one of those super anal people that needs every single pixel 100% perfect. If you're going to demand that, shut up, get a real SNES and hook it up. You're monitor is not your problem.
