Tales of phantasia freezes using zsnes 1.40 or above

Post by mclaud2000 »

I was playing tales of phantasia (the english version) on zsnes 1.36 (windows ver) and it worked perfectly, but when upgraded to 1.42 the game freezes at start, even if you load a savestate the game freezes.

Please get a good ROM, and if it's interleaved/hacked, use -fix and -deint.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

I've had no problems using a soft-patched good dump of the game.

I've been running into the same problem. I'm using v1.2 of dejap's patch, and the game works just fine without the patch.

Follow Nach's advice..

Part of this also requires you to use .ips version that patches with the ROM with no issue.. the Tales of Phantasia translation comes with 4 different formats... just run them through the auto-ips patcher and see if it runs... if it runs, it works.

IIRC, the Tales of Phantasia patch wants a header.

Use IPS.exe that comes with NSRT to strip the header away from the patch, or alternatively add a header to the rom using NSRT. I prefer the former.

I've had no problems with the April 11 WIP under FreeBSD (*nix version) running ToP with the 1.2 DeJap patch. I did soft-patching through ZSNES as well, and did was Clements did, used the ipsedit utility that came with NSRT and removed the header from the IPS since I also removed the header from my ToP ROM. No big problems with it.

That was it. I stripped the header from the patch, and now it works beautifully.

Thanks! :)
