netplay over aim

Post by caffeine »

i think the netplay should be changed to work over instant messenger as a plugin. it won't work how it is now. to play something over aim, both people need to have a plugin configured with the same plugin name. this can't happen w/ the current client/server model. couldn't you just have it so zsnes can be pointed to the other player, so both just point zsnes to the other's ip? maybe player 1 and 2 can be decided on the chat/options screen.
i think it would be great for zsnes.

Would you be the one to code such a feature? I think not.

What you ask is not possible, or at least, would take way too much coding.

whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

I thought that typing my buddies IP address into the box was easy enough? :? And were both behind firewalls/routers. :P

Then we might as well add a plugin for MSN, Yahoo etc... j/k

Pretty please, get the CVS snaphot, version 1.36 is horribly outdated.

Download this tarball.
It's the most recent WIP's source code.

nah.. why hasn't that been updated?
i just don't like it when games require knowing ip's and stuff. if zsnes could fit as an aim plugin, then a game w/ any instant messenger buddy would be 2 clicks away instead of finding ip's and whatever.
laziness vs user-friendly

Well, there is always the "do it yourself" option.

IP is nice for the time being. Think of it as a "knowledge requirement" if you don't know how to use it, you won't get netplay.

Dude, zbattle.net requires no knowledge of IP address's or what an IP is. Its just point, Click, Connect and play. Simple :P

Read install.txt and you will see what you will need zlib and libpng in order to compile ZSNES properly.

not that i've done anything or tried to compile again, but the missing .h files was from 1.36 source from sourcforge, not the wip from iphers.
