ZSNES Movies Help

Post by GCrain »

I downloaded some movies of Castlevania 4, and when I read the Read Me for the movies from the maker of them, it says:

Unzip the files to your ZSNES folder, then rename your castlevaina4 game to scv4.smc, then run ZSNES, then open castlevania 4, then go to misc, then to movie opn, then click the little boxes as to what movie to play (you should play them in order 0 - 9, then rename 10 and 11 to play them). Remember, if it don't play then make sure your castlevania 4 game is named scv4.smc NOTE: these movies were recorded using ZSNES version 0.987

So does this mean I have to have .987 for this to work? I have tried dragging the files while the emulator is running Castlevania 4, but it doesn't work...help?

I don't think you need 0.987 to play the movie. Whoever wrote that did it wrong. The movie file is supposed to match your rom name. So if your rom name is Castlevania 4 (U), rename the movie file to Castlevania 4 (U).

Make sure that the movies are in the same folder as your srms (by default, your ROM directory). And don't worry about 0.987, just use the latest version.

Would it work even if they are different versions of the rom?

But isn't there a chance that these movies will go out of sync if he uses the latest WIP to run them? After all, there have been a LOT of changes between 0.987 and the current WIP.

I can almost guarantee that it will go out-of-sync if it even works at all in the latest version.

Yes, it will certainly not playback correctly. The changes to the timing engine alone (ignoring everything else), especially any difference in the random number generation, have massive impact on zmv playback.

Use the same ZSNES version the zmv was recorded with.
