New System - ZSNES won't start!
I recently built a new system for myself since my old computer was getting really old. I tried downloading the latest copy of ZSNES for WIN32 and it won't run. It seems to start up and it creates zguicfgw.dat and zsnesw.cfg but it gets stuck in a black screen. I have no idea why ZSNES is incompatible with my new system, the only things that I could think of are that it doesn't like the ATI X1800XT, it doesn't like my athlon x2, or it doesn't like 64 bit windows. Can anybody help me?

The only problem I have with starfox is that it runs 60/60, yet it goes slow...
Snes9X plays it fine, though.

Well whenever I used to get that black screen with my old video card I'd open the config files and manually change the settings to ones that work.
And for the 3 seconds that I had 64bit Windows XP pro installed Zsnes worked just fine with startfox even without my video card drivers installed (the latest ones are incompatible with 64bit Windows XP
). If I'm not mistaken it was with Zsnes v1.36.

Considering Vista? Yeah right. I'll consider it if you give me a machine which has 10 times the minimum requirements.Aerdan wrote:Windows XP-64 is rather stupid, anyhow. If you want to make the most of your system, you really can't consider Windows until Vista comes out, bare minimum.

Well, windows xp 64 bit has been working really well for me right now. I can tell you right now that it feels faster than the same system running the 32 bit version of windows. The only problem is drivers and that's about it. If you have a mainstream graphics card, motherboard, and sound card you shouldn't have any problems. I did have problems finding drivers for my HP printer, but after enough digging i was able to find some beta drivers and they have worked great so far. If there is a downside to windows xp 64 bit (other than drivers), can anyone here tell me?

I hear certain software doesn't work properly in XP 64. However the good news is that XP 64 doesn't allow replacement of core system hooks, so you don't have to worry about XCP or other malware taking over the system using those XP 32 holes.

To do something else, yes. It just simply isn't possible to replace some internal system hooks, they're hard coded in. Now they'd have to find a hole somewhere else and overwrite the code for a system hook.Deathlike2 wrote:Spyware creeps will find a way though...

I'm finally able to reproduce the problem I'm having with ZSNES giving me a black screen some times. For some odd reason, when I play World of Warcraft and then exit the game, the game doesn't properly exit. It's no longer in the taskbar, but if i go into the task manager it's actually still running. As soon as I force quit it, I can start ZSNES again. It seems that World of Warcraft hangs on for dear life to direct3d and it doesn't let any other program use it. But it only does that after I quit it. If I run ZSNES while I haven't quit World of Warcraft (just alt-tabbing out of it), I can start it just fine.
