Super Mario RPG Freezes

Post by mytmyke »

Using WIP 11/26. Super Mario RPG freezes. I can't get past the enter your name part without it freezing. Can someone confirm this. The freezing first occured in WIP 11/05. Does not freeze in WIP 10/31. Here in my ROM Information.

I can confirm this, i have the same problem, it is a random thing, after that part of the game, another similar problem happens when mario is expelled from the castle (the game freezes). I am using Windows 98 SE although I do not believe that it is the problem.

Your Settings

Post by mytmyke »

Well at least one other person can confirm this. Like I said, I don't have this problem running 10/31 WIP. I wonder if it is a hardware or settings problem. True X Unknown or adventure_of_link, do you mind letting me know your settings? Or will one of you continue to play for a while? I have gotten past the enter name part once or twice only to freeze later in the game. Can anyone else confirm? I would appreciate the input.

Do you guys have SRAM Check+Save enabled? Are you playing the game from a CD? If so, SRAM Check+Save might be a problem...I have not tested to confirm this.

Bug confirmed. Disabling SRAM Check + Save does not fix it.

 Of course that we are not the same person, although the problem was already confirmed by another member, so we are not crazy at least :D.

Here's my rom info, it hasn't frozen on me yet since im playing it again.

I noticed the filenames of the 2 that froze are different from mine, could be nothing or everything [which is not likely].

The filename is totally irrelavent. It could be Donkey-fucks_monkey.smc and as long as the contents haven't changed it's still the same file.

I am also getting random freezes in game. It seems to happen the most when I try to equip something, or use a item in the item menu.

If I use rewind fast enough I can get out of it. :?

I played the game a few months back and didn't even encounter one freeze. I guess i am a lucky bastard then.

Like I said

Post by mytmyke »

A couple of months back there wasn't a problem. Like I said in my first post it doesn't occur in 10/31 WIP. Started in 11/05 WIP. Use the latest WIP and you will know what I'm talking about.

Some recent timing changes have caused the SA-1 clock to be skewed, I will have to redo the timing formula to fix this. It should be easy to do. As you make the main core more accurate the other parts that rely on the older timing have become out of whack.
