It has the cutscenes from the PSX version, which is a nice idea. And the game's no longer plagued with the long loading times or muffled sound (like in the Chronicles version). I was quite surprised how close the music was to the SNES version.

Wasn't it Sake originally?
Haha, if so; it would be hilarious if people started whining about that instead.

They also changed the part when Chrono drinks sake instead of soup, but what're ya gonna do? Just seemed weird that Chrono and Lucca get a hangover from chugging soup, but, then again, for the time, the CT translation was pretty darn good.

No, they'll find a way to nitpick. They always do.

The Sake / Cider issue was in Final Fantasy 3/VI.

Oh, yeah, there's that one, too. It's also good that there's an "SNES" mode so you don't have to watch the anime cutscenes or use the touch screen.

I think I'm going to get this game now. I was originally really annoyed that, despite Sqeenix's obvious ability to squeeze nice FMVs onto the DS, they seemed to be short-changing CT when they did such a wonderful job on FFIV.

Now that I know CT:DS is going to be at least as good as the PSX version (Minus lag), I see no reason not to buy this (given that I've never owned this game before)

If I HAD owned this game though, I probably wouldn't bother.

So it will AT LEAST be a snappier version of a bad port?

The PS version was NOT AS GOOD as the original SNES version, FMV be damned.

They at least didn't screw up the sound; it sounds like the SNES version for once.

I agree. Although my only "test" is watching/listening to the trailer on http://na.square-enix.com/ctds/ - so it's not much.

Thanks for that link :) My opinion still stands - the music is good quality. That multilayer mode looks interesting too.

Well, "The Day of Lavos" and "Lab 16/32" music actually sound pretty cool on the DS version.

More screenshots for the eyes.
I dislike the text staggering -- it's not even consistent in the screenshots. They should really increase the font size, and fill more of the window.

Example:
This is an example of a_________________
text staggered window.________________

vs

This is an example of a non-text _
staggered window. ___________

Yeah I know, too much time ROM hacking to worry about text details over gameplay ...

Real hackers care about those details

because they are part of what makes a translation reach awesomehood

... 16/32 ?
It's "Ruins of lab #16" ffs

Arguably 'Remains' instead of ruins. Tricky point I'm not knowledgeable enough to clear.

Well, considering it will be displayed on a tiny screen, text that small will fukcing rape our eyes.
